craft fairs and how i found out bears hate trail mix

it's been an interesting day. first things first, i knew i had a lot of things to do this morning (clean, go to the grocery store, hit the bank, get my brows done) so of course i WAY overslept to the tune of 12 hours. oops.

so i was able to accomplish a shower before i had to leave to meet up with some friends for burgers and crafts. if you have never before had an amaretto oreo shake, get thee to a twisted root and imbibe IMMEDIATELY.
after a lunch of 10 fried green beans and the aforementioned shake, we packed up and headed over to etsy's jingle bash at sons of herman hall.
um, yah. i see when they named the place they wanted to be as descriptive as possible, so they mimed the word "corridor", insinuating how many people would fit in there comfortably, and ordered the neon. i got a gift bag filled with coupons for stuff i wasn't interested in and a 100 calorie snack bar, expiration? 06/08. Klassy.
it took a total of 30 minutes to peruse everything there, twice, and i left underwhelmed with the talent available, but overwhelmed by the sense of smug in the room. now i'm lazy, but, i'm not paying some hack $5 for $0.15 of supplies and $0.35 of effort. not gon' do it. but good on them for shucking their wares in a hot corridor!
i drove home with the windows a teeny bit down so i could charm the world with my rousing renditions of whatever song came on the radio. favorite that i can remember? "come on eileen". let me give you a glimpse
"come on eileeen! oh i swear da-da-mean at this moment you mean eeeeeeeeeverythiiiiiiiiiiing you saw that dress oh i think it's caress ah come on now. oh come on eileeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen. ei-leen. ei-leen ta-lu-rye-a two-rah two-rah ta-lu-rye-a"
i'm a lyricist. don't question me.

invigorated by the lack of traffic on i30 on a saturday afternoon (thanks jerry!) i just knew i was going to get all my stuff done when i got home.
i bought 6 iridescent glass ornaments, one half of a chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, watched one of the saddest movies ever (hotel rwanda) and opened the mail.
herald me and my rapt attention to responsibility!

oh yes, the bears.
so i wait until scott goes to sleep to christmas shop. it's easier to listen to the snoring than to field the "so what are you doing?" "no, i just have to get a kleenex, yah it's behind you, i'll grab it" "ooooo, i HAVE wanted one of those!" comments.

i'm not sure if you're familiar, so i'll just tell you now that tv after eleven-thirty on a saturday is very slim pickings.

enter chris douglas's "bear feeding frenzy".

this moron sits in what i can only guess is a plexiglass cube with a hinged top, and videos bears as they come after the human pheremone soaked mannequin he has placed in his vicinity. in the clip to which i am referring, he placed five or six different kinds of food around his "predator shield" to see which the bears preferred: salmon, hot dogs, trail mix, muffins, and a baby.
i'm just kidding about the baby.

the bears avoided his m&m trail mix and went straight for their favorite of the selections which turned out to be: you guessed it...the cube.
