total beatdown of a day

so i'll start at the begining:

7:15am - walk out to the car, kiss husband goodbye, and climb in. upon turning the key, a bright orange light instructs "check tire pressure". flick over to the tire pressure screen and am informed that right rear tire is at a ONE. it's usually at 30.

7:18am - inspect damage and stomp foot like child. scott is still standing at the door, so he tells me that he will change the tire if i go fill his tank up.

7:42am - return from beating that is gas station before work monday morning. scott has tire off and is putting spare on. am reminded of the time i drove on a spare for 2 months when i was 19 b/c i had no money for a new tire. am thankful for being fiscally responsible adult.

8:02am - kiss husband goodbye and climb in car. gingerly pull out of the garage and head, very slowly to discount tire to evaluate situation.

8:41am - am finally next in line, and assisted by a nice old man named "dave" who takes one look at the nail head in my tire and diagnoses a replacement. go inside to find out scalping i will take over buying brand new tire. dave informs me that my tire is special order and will take 2 days to come in. thank him and head to saturn dealership.

9:00am - arrive at saturn and inform service staff of tire atrocity. they are already super busy, but promise to take care of me asap.

9:03am - 10:59am - am subjected to watching "mike and juliet" morning show, b/c it's the only thing playing on the paltry screen in the waiting room. flip through random good housekeeping and health magazines that have been so picked over it's ridiculous. am reminded of how fun christmas is because that's the season that is represented in print.

11:04am - am released from waiting room hell. tire, after having a four inch construction nail removed, appears to be patched and car has been washed (hooray!!) call boss, for the third time that morning, to inform her that i am changing clothes and then will be into the office. a mere four hours late.

12:17pm - 4:34pm - have crappy day at work. want to axe-murder coworkers and throw bosses off edges of many cliffs.

4:37pm - go to check on car in parking garage. turn car on to check tire pressure monitor which, instead of saying 30, says 14.

4:38pm - 4:42pm - curse wildly and rue the day tires were invented. and nails. consider only using screws for all future projects.

4:43pm - call scott to commisserate about horrible luck with tires. he agrees to come and change tire and keep me company when he gets off at 5:30.

4:45pm - 5:32pm - continue to have crappy and horrible day filled with people i wish would vanish off the planet, perhaps leaving fireworks in their wake.

5:40pm - 6:13pm - scott futilely attempts to get the shop-torqued lugnuts off of the wheel. at one point, he has lifted car off the jack. i stop him, as to avoid hernia.

6:14pm - call saturn roadside assistance to get a tow. lovely service clerk agrees to have tow truck on-site and will haul car, for free!, to nearest saturn dealership. will send follow-up call to inform of tow truck eta.

6:18pm - receive follow-up call informing that the tow truck will be there in a robotic one hour.

6:19pm - 6:22pm - curse tow truck timelines.

6:23pm - 6:49pm - have healthy dinner at local mcdonalds with husband, so we will not miss tow truck arrival, and crappy mcd's is closest place.

6:50pm - receive phone call saying tow truck driver will be on-site in 30 minutes.

7:35pm - tow truck driver shows up.

7:38pm - 7:52pm - sit in awe of tow truck driver's prowess. he hooks, hauls and pulls 2000 pound vehicle onto flatbed. driver, at best, is a flyweight fighter.

7:53pm - driver takes off with car on flatbed. look dazedly at husband to see if car has been stolen, or if driver just knows what he's doing and has no use for dumbfounded woman.

7:55pm - decide driver is not coming back, is really gone and has no need for us.

8:45pm - arrive home. change shoes. kiss dog.

8:46pm - present - figure ways to get revenge on saturn inc. perhaps sugar in company gas tank?

One of my tires was punctured by a car key once. A great big one with the black top -- it was a Lincoln.

Damn thing.

Don't hate on nails -- it was just that poor tire's time. :(
